Why On-Die Power-Rail Measurements are Important

By David Maliniak and Eric Bogatin

For this project, we will use an Atmel 328 microcontroller demo board, prepared with firmware to control it explicitly for our purposes, and with coaxial cables connected between the I/O pins and the input to the active probes of the scope. This interconnect provides a high bandwidth transmission line path for the signals. Discover more.

LVPECL/LVDS Clock Oscillators for Telecommunication Applications

IQD has launched a new range of LVPECL (IQXO-623/IQXO-624) & LVDS (IQXO-618) output clock oscillators with the phase jitter of less than 1ps rms (over 12kHz to 20MHz) irrespective of which output is specified. Housed in a hermetically sealed 3.2 x 2.5 x 1.1mm ceramic 6-pad package, the new models are available in a frequency range from 13.5MHz to 156.25MHz. The IQXO-618, IQXO-623 & IQXO-624 are primarily designed for applications such as Ethernet (10G/40G), Fibre Channel & SONET/SDH.

Dialog Semiconductor Simplifies IoT Cloud Connectivity with Bluetooth® Low Energy Sensor Development Kit

Dialog Semiconductor plc, introduced its new 15 Degrees-of-Freedom (DOF) SmartBond Multi-Sensor Kit to support sensor connectivity in the Internet of Things (IoT). Built on Dialog’s DA14585 SmartBond System-on-Chip (SoC), the kit allows engineers to easily connect sensors to the cloud at the lowest power and smallest footprint.

EDI CON USA 2018 Opens Registration

EDI CON USA has opened its registration for this year’s event, October 17-18 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The conference will feature Eric Bogatin’s High Speed Digital Symposium, the EDI CON University tutorials, panels, technical sessions, and workshops with hands-on techniques covering SI, PI, EMC/EMI, as well as RF and microwave topics. The exhibition floor will be open both days, complete with exhibitors and demonstrations and panels in the Frequency Matters Theater on the show floor. Join us for learning, networking (welcome reception and happy hour), keynotes, and the opportunity to see the latest products in SI, PI, EMC/EMI, RF, and microwave. See you in Santa Clara! SIJ readers can take 20% off conference pass admission with the code: READSIJ20.

Practical PCB Layout for SI/PI/EMC: What an EE Needs to Know to Survive PCB Manufacturing

If interconnects were transparent, this would be a very short webinar. But in all except the very simplest boards, the interconnects are not transparent. There are three general performance categories of boards based on the range of problems they will encounter. In the short time we will have, all we can do is introduce the best design practices to pay attention to in each of these three general classes of boards. We'll see how design decisions and board material decisions influence taming SI/PI and EMI problems.
