Signal Integrity Journal is pleased to welcome Benoit Derat as its newest Technical Advisor. In this role, Benoit will provide technical guidance and industry perspective to support the journal’s editorial mission and help strengthen its coverage of signal integrity, high-speed communications, measurement, and related technologies.

Benoit brings more than two decades of experience spanning antenna systems, electromagnetic research, over-the-air and antenna measurements, EMC, vector network analysis, and high-speed communications testing. He will continue in his full-time role as Senior Director of R&D for Compute, Storage, Optical Transport, and High-Speed Ethernet Test Solutions at VIAVI Solutions in Eningen, Germany.

Benoit earned his engineering degree from SUPELEC in 2002 and a Ph.D. with honors in physics from the University of Paris XI, Orsay, in 2006. He began his career at SAGEM Mobiles, where he focused on antenna design and electromagnetic research. In 2009, he founded ART-Fi, serving as CEO and President and introducing the first vector-array-specific specific absorption rate (SAR) measurement system.

In 2017, Benoit joined Rohde & Schwarz in Munich, where he led engineering teams and contributed to advancements in over-the-air and antenna measurements, EMC, and vector network analysis. In 2025, he joined VIAVI Solutions to lead R&D focused on computer systems and optical transport testing solutions, bringing his expertise to the rapidly evolving areas of high-speed computing, connectivity, and data center technology.

Benoit is an Edmond S. Gillepsie Fellow of the Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) and served as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE EMC Society (2024–2025). He has authored more than 100 scientific publications and holds more than 45 patents. His research has focused on antenna systems and near- and far-field characterization techniques.

“We are very pleased to welcome Benoit to the Signal Integrity Journal team,” said Jenn DiMarco, Media Director. “His breadth of technical experience, combined with his work across measurement, high-speed communications, and emerging technologies, will bring valuable perspective to our editorial efforts and to the engineers and professionals we serve. We are also looking forward to a very exciting 2027, with new developments planned for Signal Integrity Journal, including new online events and fresh topics across our two issues. Benoit’s expertise will be a valuable addition as we continue to grow and evolve the journal and its technical content.”
