Characterizing and Selecting the VRM

By Steve Sandler

VRMs and VRM controllers are often selected based on size, efficiency, price, or a relationship with the manufacturer. This often leads to a poor VRM selection, requiring additional engineering resources, greater time to market, as well as, higher BOM costs to correct the deficiencies. In this article, we evaluate the choices, define some useful figures of merit, and provide specific selection suggestions.

New Yorker Electronics Distributing High-Current Inductor with Up to 250A Continuous Current Rating

New Yorker Electronics has released the new Vishay Dale IHXL-2000VZ-5A Very High-Current Through-Hole Inductor. The new Vishay IHXL technology combines the metal composite construction of a pressed metal powder with an insulating binder which allows for high saturation magnetization and high field strength – so it handles high transient current spikes without saturation.

Fast Analysis of Sporadic Errors With Segmented Memory and History Function
By Rohde & Schwarz

Equipped with the R&S®RTB-K15 and the R&S®RTM-K15 options, the R&S®RTB2000 and the R&S®RTM3000 offer a history function with a segmented memory of 160/400 Msample per channel. The R&S®RTA4000 oscilloscopes provide a segmented memory of 1000 Msample per channel as standard. This covers analog and digital channels and the memory can be divided into several steps.

High Speed Digital Symposium Announced
