Title: The Smart Way to Evaluate and Optimize Low Power IoT Designs

Date: January 26, 2017

Time: 8am PT/ 11am ET

Sponsored by: Rohde & Schwarz

Presented by: Fernando Schmitt, Product Manager, Rohde & Schwarz Munich and Joerg Koepp, Market Segment Manager, Rohde & Schwarz Munich

Abstract:

Battery life of 10+ years is a key requirement for many Internet of Things (IoT) applications. 3GPP Release 12 and later releases added LTE features such as eMTC, NB-IoT, eDRX and power-saving mode (PSM) to meet this important requirement. In order to select the most appropriate feature(s) and parameters, it is essential to understand the impact of the different features on power consumption and overall application performance such as latency. In this webinar, we will explain the different features for low-power IoT designs and explore the value of end-to-end testing under real-life network conditions based on a unique test solution that allows very precise power and current measurements.

Attendees will learn:
- How eDRX and PSM work and their impact on power consumption and latency
- How coverage enhancements affect power consumption
- Importance of end-to-end application testing
- The value of a unique test solution for precise power measurements correlated with network state information

Presenter Bios:

Fernando Schmitt is a product manager for mobile radio testers at Rohde & Schwarz headquarters in Munich, Germany. He focuses especially on test automation and applications such as battery life and power consumption, as well as video and audio performance testing on mobile phones. Fernando holds a degree in communications engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm, Germany.

Joerg Koepp is market segment and technology manager, responsible for the IoT market at Rohde & Schwarz. In this role, he is promoting test and measurement solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). Joerg has a broad experience in the telecommunication industry. Prior to joining Rohde & Schwarz, Joerg worked as system architect, project leader, and as director of system engineering and technology manager at Siemens and Siemens Nokia Networks.
